CHRISTIANITY IN THE UKThree quarters of churchgoers say the risk of anti-Christian persecution in the UK is greater than five years ago, and two thirds think there is more negative discrimination against Christians than any other faith group in the countryThe figures have just been released by Premier Christian Radio and Peter Kerridge, head of Premier, said 'The message is clear. As a country we need to do more to support Christians living out their faith' Referring to comments made by the Prime Minister, he asked, 'Gordon Brown has said those in official positions should not leave their faith at the door, but what does he propose so that Christians do not feel at risk of persecution when they express their faith?' The Christian Institute has compiled a report cataloguing cases which highlight the marginalisation of Christians in the UK, just one such example is the British Airways worker in the news recently, because she had been told to hide a small cross she was wearing Poirot actor David Suchet said in November that 'Christianity is being marginalised' in Britain. In Women’s Weekly magazine he said, 'We are in danger of losing the importance of the Christian faith in our own country' If you want to read more about this and other issues of concern to Christians in our country today, find out more through The Christian Institute and look online at http://www.christian.org.uk |
