After the Easter break, we started a series of stories about healing in the Bible and Naaman was first on the list. This story gave us the opportunity to stress how bad coveting can be and the evils of lying as well as the blessings of obedience to God. Wendy came on 29th April to tell several stories about being lost. The first was from her famous storybook about a lost beetle and she then told about Jesus’ stories of the lost coin and the lost sheep. The handicraft consisted of reproducing replicas of the necklace whose coin was missing and, of course, a lost sheep. Jan told the story of Jairus’ daughter and the woman who touched Jesus’ garment. No connection with the story, but the children then decorated a wooden spoon to include a dried flower arrangement. The handicraft, which resulted in a self-imposed silence and concentration, was the creation of a 64-piece mosaic – we’ve never known them so quiet. On 13 May Peggy told the story of the centurions’ servant whom Jesus healed and we followed this with stencilling patterns onto cork mats – a potentially messy procedure, but as it turned out the messiest part was performed by the leaders who had the paintbrushes and pots to clean up afterwards Peggy and Harold |
