We started back after half term on 2nd June in the capable hands of Richard Brookes who came to share his ice-cream making skills in preparation for the Garden Party. Under Richard’s instruction (and our careful eyes!), the children prepared the Mangoes and Strawberries, measured, weighed, and stirred - what resulted in mouth-watering ice cream. I’m sure those who sampled it at the Garden Party will agree?! As the ice cream needed to be frozen – in true Blue Peter style, Richard produced 'some he prepared earlier' for the children to taste. It was superb – thank you Richard. Ann spoke to the children on her role as Church advocate that evening. She shared how the children could talk to her or any of the advocates about things which are worrying them. The following week, 9th we handed the whole evening over to Brenda and her ‘Lions’. We hunted for them outside – well pictures really, made some lion plaques to hang up and played lion games. The story was about…………………Daniel in the Lions den and how God protected him from harm. We also joined in some singing and mime. We really would like to thank Brenda for organising and leading the evening. On 26th, we dusted off the parachute and played a variety of games outside (the rain just held off!). We also played indoor volleyball to Doug’s rules, which made it very interesting! I spoke to the group about Abraham, Sarah and Hagar. How hurtful words and thinking that one of them was better than the other caused anger and pain. In God’s eyes, we are all the same and we shouldn’t let others hurt us by the things they say. Monday 23rd was a trip to Forty Hall. We introduced our new ones to ‘Crocker’, which is a form of cricket. We managed to obtain a picture quiz for the children to use around the building itself. As we come into the final month before the summer break, please pray particularly for the family BBQ planned for Monday 21st July, when we will be inviting parents and children from all the Oakwood Adventure. This will be a good opportunity to share the exciting changes from September and say farewell to ‘retiring’ staff, like Trevor – who has been involved in the group since it started, and myself, a relatively new comer (just 12 years!) Thank you to those who have come along and supported the group, leading devotionals and praying for the children. Please continue to pray for them, as attendance has been a bit erratic but averaging 14
