Salties

Salties

Although we are only few in number so far this term, we have had fun looking at the stories of Elijah and Elisha. The first week we heard about Elijah telling King Ahab there would be no rain for 3 years, and God looking after him by sending ravens to bring him bread and meat to eat. God then sent him to meet a widow and her son who had no food left but God did a miracle and their oil and flour did not run out until the end of the drought. We made raven pictures out of colourful feathers (yes we know they are black but we were being creative!)

Then we heard about God sending fire down from heaven to burn up Elijah’s sacrifice on Mount Carmel, after Ahab had failed to convince the god Baal to send fire.

Ahab was in trouble again on 29 September as he coveted his neighbour’s vineyard. One thing led to another and the neighbour was murdered as a result of two false witnesses. We learned about envy and lying and followed it all up by planting some hyacinth bulbs!

Elijah’s chariot ride to heaven gave us an opportunity to construct cardboard chariots and horses but we couldn’t simulate Elisha’s miracle with the jars of oil! (See 2 Kings 4)

Another miracle figured in the following week’s story, when the Shunemite Woman’s son was restored to life after falling sick in the harvest field. The defeat of the Syrian army as a direct result of God’s miraculous intervention ended our first half session

We resumed after half term with the story of Naaman and how he was cured of his skin disease. His dishonest servant Gehazi ended up with the disease as punishment for his lying behaviour. We experienced our lowest attendance that day. Zac sat and listened carefully and responded accurately. It being two days before Guy Fawkes, our supply of 50 sparklers and 30 bangers (the edible kind) were enjoyed by Zac and five leaders!

Jan told the story of the Garden of Eden and we made pom pom snakes – those that didn’t stick well together, Jackie reinforced with Needle and thread!

On 17 November we learned all about the bravery of God-trusting Daniel when punished with a night with the lions. Hand puppets to resemble lions were made by the three girls, including a new one, poor Zac being overcome by exhaustion after a tough day at school.

Our Christmas party and prize giving is on 8th December and we resume in the new-year on 12th January.

Please pray for some new recruits!
